Update from Tollgate Farm

The pit is shown emerging as predicated by the geophys:
Also, we are planning a walk in September to Padley Chapel
Walk to Padley Chapel Saturday September 12th
Please meet on the National Trust carpark on the Longshaw Estate which is located close to the Fox House Inn just outside Hathersage on the A6187 Sheffield road. The park is on the B6065 grid ref 267800 and is free to NT members, but the card should be on display. If we meet at 10.45 am we should have ample time to walk through the ancient woodland of Padley Gorge and arrive at Padley Chapel by 12 noon where we will be given a guided tour. Padley is the picturesque remains of a medieval manor where two recusant priests were arrested and taken to Derby to be tried and executed. Note that it is the Heritage Open weekend and the nearby North Lees Hall will be open to the public from 10 - 5. For those who do not wish to walk, there is parking (and refreshments) at the old station at Gridleford. For the disabled, it has been agreed that parking will be allowed directly outside the chapel. It is proposed to have lunch at Padley or the cafe at Grindleford and then resume the walk shortly afterwards. Please note that this walk covers some very steep ground both going up and coming down. For the fleet of foot, we can complete the circular walk back to the carpark, with a chance to drive to North Lees before it closes!

Digging Resumes at Tollagte for the 2009 Season
Despite the weather digging has resumed at Tollgate Farm and will continue on Tuesdays and Sundays as before. In the photos below you can see the outline of the pit discovered last year; this year we plan to half-section the feature and hopefully bottom it.
A few photos from our annual visit to Marcham/Frilford. Our thanks to Professor Gary Lock for his hospitality and generosity with his time.
Note that this is not a SOTMAS dig, but run by Oxford University.
