Fishbourne Trip
On 1st & 2nd September, members of the society enjoyed a trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace, organised by John Arnold. By all accounts everyone had a most interesting and enjoyable time, and we send our thanks to John for making it happen.

Progress at Pointhorne...
Work has continued, with the two large stones covering the suspected cistern now fully exposed and the pillar base cleaned and excavated.
Some great photographs from the 19, 21 and 26th by Dave Thomas:

Excavations at Pointhorne
Further extensions to Trench A have revealed some interesting stone features/artefacts, one of which seems to be a decorative pillar base. The extensions to the trench proceed west and east (see plot). Two large flat stones were also found, which Winston suspects cover a cistern. At the end of the afternoon today, a gap between the two was plumbed and it appears to go down about 3 m to water of approx 1.5 m depth. Dave has taken some great photographs and there'll be another update later.
Another trench was opened on the 19th, revealing a cobbled surface. This needs further investigation to relate it to the other features.
The photographs below were taken by Paul Klimczak (19.08.07):
