Pointhorne - 28.09.07

 

Excavation has finished at Pointhorne and we are backfilling on Sunday 30th September after what has been an interesting, rewarding, and well attended dig. The well has been filled in by the farmer for safety reasons, but has been recorded and our data will be published here as Alex and Winston get to work drawing and writing up. There are plenty more photographs to come from Dave Thomas too, along with the results of Les Williams and Randle Knight's historical research, so watch this space!

Pointhorne - 15.09.07

 

Area C has been opened revealing a distinct occupation layer, composed of some kind of lime stone and clay. It is above floor level in Area A by about 1 ft, and does not appear to have a distinct edge. This and its crudity make it hard to interpret. Additionally, a most interesting feature was uncovered with the aid of a mechanical excavator, as the photographs show:
